REPUBLICAN GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE BRAD SHERMAN ISSUES STATEMENT ON DEMOCRAT ROB SAND RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR
Sherman Sees This As Likely General Election Matchup
Williamsburg, Iowa: On Monday, May 12, 2025, Republican candidate for Iowa Governor Brad Sherman released the following statement on State Auditor Rob Sand announcing he will run for Governor;
“I want to welcome Rob Sand to the race, and I look forward to showing voters that a conservative government here in Iowa works, and works well. I know I am the best choice for Governor, and I am really excited to have that public debate with Auditor Sand.”
Sherman continued, “I don’t believe Iowa voters truly agree with Rob Sand on the issues, but he is certainly capitalizing on a feeling of discontent over divisive political rhetoric felt by many in Iowa. As a pastor, I agree that our political rhetoric has gotten far too heated recently, and treating everyone with respect and kindness is something I have prioritized in my campaign.”
As the only declared Republican candidate for Governor, Sherman believes Sand’s announcement today will help to shape the general election, which is likely to now see Sherman face Sand in November 2026. Sherman is running on defending private property rights against eminent domain abuse, strengthening Iowa’s education from the bottom up, and revitalizing rural Iowa, and addressing the mental health crisis in Iowa, among other top issues.
Since announcing in February, Sherman’s campaign has garnered a large list of endorsements by legislators, county GOP officials, county supervisors, conservative activists, former White House officials, elected officials in other states – including a sitting lieutenant governor – and many pastors around Iowa.
