REPUBLICAN GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE BRAD SHERMAN RELEASES STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR REYNOLDS VETO OF HF639
Sherman Steadfast Against Eminent Domain For Private Gain, Has List Of
Legislative Endorsements Behind Him
Williamsburg, Iowa: Republican candidate for Iowa Governor Brad Sherman released the following statement in the wake of the Governor’s veto of HF639, alongside a growing list of endorsements from legislators.
“The grassroots in Iowa is trending more and more conservative. This trend was reflected in the 2022 and 2024 elections, creating a conservative shift in the Iowa Legislature. The battle we saw in the Iowa Senate over eminent domain revealed that leadership in the House adjusted to this shift but the Governor and the leadership in the Senate did not.” Sherman said. “Coming into the elections of 2026, we will have a choice between maintaining the status quo the establishment wants, or making monumental changes to align our state more with the Constitution. When I am Governor, I look forward to signing meaningful legislation like HF639 that will defend Iowa landowners.”
Sherman also emphasized the Iowa legislators on the front lines of this issue who have endorsed his campaign:
Senator Dennis Guth, Senator Kevin Alons, Senator Sandy Salmon, Senator Doug Campbell, Senator Lynn Evans, Senator Cherielynn Westrich, Representative Mark Thompson, Representative Mark Cisneros, Judd Lawler, Former Representative Anne Osmundson, Former Representative Luanna Stoltenberg, among others.
“The endorsements I have received from these key Iowa legislators show that this issue is of vital importance for me. I really look forward to working with these legislators and others to secure meaningful eminent domain legislation to defend our landowners here in Iowa,” Sherman said.
